1.1% GROWTH By: Clare

According to official data the UK economy grew by 1.1% in the second quarter of this year.  This is only a provisional figure but outstrips the 0.06% that ecomonists were expecting.

So does this spell good news for our businesses?  Graeme Leach of the IoD said “The latest quarterly figures were good news, but we think they are likely to be as good as it gets.  We do not think this rate of growth can be maintained.”

Generally the opinions appear to be that the economic recovery seems to be gaining traction, but it is always important not to read too much into one set of figures.
